very small bowl -blue vein glass 2

veins are carved into powder and then filled with a contrasting colour to create the stripes that run deep in this little bowl. this series of little dishes takes me to my blissful time spent in Naxos where white buildings and blue skies bought a peaceful calm to each day.

To care for you little bowl wipe clean or wash in hot soapy water. I don’t recommend using a dishwasher.

Your little glass bowl is made by creating veins of glass which are then ‘grouted’ with the blue colour. They are firstly fused into a flat disc and the outside sandblasted to create a matt finish. sandblasting produces a soft to the glass which is lovely to feel. The disc is then shaped in the kiln by being slumped into progressively smaller and deeper bowl shaped moulds before finally the edge is smoothed out and highly polished. Each of these little bowls take about two weeks to make and goes into the kiln for about 24 hours 5 times.   Please note that this little gem is slightly steeper on one side than the other which is a feature of deep slumping caused by the bowl slipping in the kiln. It always happens and is not a fault but a characteristic of the process.
